LMRA Chairman and Minister of Labor Jameel Humaidan said that they will prevent the conversion of tourist visas to work visas in Bahrain. The minister was speaking in the discussion held in Parliament regarding the functioning of LMRA. He also said that an action plan will be implemented to solve the problem of illegal migrant workers. The Labor Minister said that out of 103,000 non-resident workers who violated the law, 42,000 have so far been registered under the new Vocational Employment Scheme. 31,000 have left the country or secured employment under a sponsor. 26,000 people have been found in violation. The committee of MPs had demanded that expatriates should be banned from switching to work visas following arriving in Bahrain on tourist visas. Shaikh Hisham bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa, Under-Secretary for Nationality, Passport and Residence Affairs at the Ministry of Interior, said abuse of the entry rules would be strictly prevented. He said airlines would be asked not to board anyone returning to Bahrain without a return ticket, residence visa or sufficient funds.
