Thiruvananthapuram ∙ Governor Arif Muhammad Khan signed the Hospital Protection Bill. The Assembly passed the bill a week ago and submitted it to the Governor. The law is meant to ensure heavy punishment for violence against hospitals and all categories of health workers. The amendment bill was introduced in the House on the 8th of last year. Any attack on hospitals and health workers should be investigated by an officer not below the rank of inspector. Investigation should be completed within 60 days from the date of registration of FIR.

Efforts should be made to complete the trial proceedings within one year. The court has the power to extend the period. It should not exceed 6 months. Each Sessions Court in the districts will be designated as a special court to deal with such cases. The maximum punishment is 7 years and a fine of Rs.
