Prices fall thanks to the new discount

The average prices of fuels sold in service stations in France fell last week in particular thanks to the new rebate of the State, raised to 30 centimes per liter since September 1. Diesel was at 1.78 euros, or 16 cents less than the previous week, according to figures closed on Friday and transmitted by the Ministry of Energy Transition. The SP95 premium gasoline is at 1.6186 euros (or around 16 cents less) and the SP95-E10 at 1.5420, down 19 cents.

These French prices take into account of a rebate raised on September 1 from 18 to 30 cents per liter at the pump (in mainland France). After a period of decline at the start of the summer, diesel in particular has been rising again since mid-August, due in particular to the gradual implementation of the European embargo on Russian petroleum products.

Very high oil prices

Europe must find alternative sources of diesel, which it does not produce in sufficient quantities, which entails an additional cost. In general, oil prices remain very high, boosted by the post-Covid recovery and then by the consequences of the war in ukraine.
