Primavera Sound 2026: Rain Causes Cancellations and 15,000 Ticket Refunds

The 24th edition of Primavera Sound in Barcelona concludes this weekend, recording an attendance of 287,000 people—a decline of 6,000 visitors compared to the 2025 event. Despite the high turnout, organizers confirmed they will issue refunds to approximately 15,000 ticket holders following the cancellation of several key performances on Thursday due to severe weather.

The Thursday Cancellation and Refund Policy

The Thursday Cancellation and Refund Policy

Adverse weather conditions forced the festival to suspend multiple sets on Thursday, including scheduled performances by Massive Attack, Doja Cat, Bad Gyal, Mac DeMarco, and Alex G. Alfonso Lanza, the festival’s co-director, stated that while the event faced an “extremely demanding” day, the team successfully executed over 60 other performances despite the disruption.

The refund process, which opens this coming Monday, applies exclusively to single-day ticket holders for Thursday. Lanza clarified that full-festival passes are ineligible for reimbursement, citing the festival’s internal policy that requires the cancellation of more than 50% of the total scheduled programming to trigger a broader refund mandate.

“We consider it the right thing to do to return the money to those who purchased a single-day ticket, as they were unable to see three of the headliners,” Lanza noted. Officials estimated that roughly 71,000 people were expected at the Fòrum on Thursday, with approximately 20% to 25% holding single-day passes, accounting for the 15,000 affected attendees.

Demographics and Programming Choices

Data provided by the festival’s communications lead, Aleix Ibars, indicates a shift in the audience makeup. International visitors accounted for 62% of the total attendance, while local attendees from Spain represented 38%, marking a slight increase in domestic participation compared to recent years.

The programming strategy this year focused on a mix of established acts and emerging artists. Lanza highlighted the artistic success of performances by Geese and PinkPantheress, as well as the Friday night sequence featuring Addison Rae and The Cure, which organizers described as a bridge between distinct generations of popular music.

Institutional Stability and Future Planning

Looking ahead, Primavera Sound has confirmed the dates for its 25th anniversary. The 2027 edition is scheduled for June 3, 4, and 5. The festival will maintain its residency at the Parc del Fòrum for the foreseeable future, operating under a confirmed agreement with Barcelona Serveis Municipals (BSM) that extends through 2030.
