Sédhiou, January 16 (APS) – Prime Minister Amadou Ba visited, Monday, the rehabilitation works of the Sénoba-Mpack road as part of the economic tour that he began since Sunday in the south of the country, noted the APS.

The Sénoba-Ziguinchor-Mpack road rehabilitation project has a particular character in terms of territorial equity, integration and opening up of the southern regions, he said.

According to a press document, this project includes 217 km of paved roads and 95 km of connecting tracks. It is also planned to carry out related developments consisting, among other things, of socio-economic infrastructure, notably classrooms, health facilities, roads and heavy-duty parking, without forgetting support for women’s and youth groups for the valorization of agricultural production.

In the employability component, the project includes the recruitment of 200 young people out of 500 trained in paving, reinforcement, machine operation, topology, masonry and asphalting.

In Bambaly, the Prime Minister promised that the town will receive its 200 street lamps like other local authorities.

»The President of the Republic Macky Sall has made 200 solar street lights each available to all municipalities in Senegal. For the case of the commune of Bambaly, I will expedite this with the governor and the Minister of Energy to allow the locality to have its share,” he said in front of the mayor of the commune.

The head of government announced that the community will benefit from urban roads as part of the construction of the Boudjié loop.

In Sédhiou, economic actors presented to the PM their concerns which revolve around employment and economic transformation.
The president of the group of carriers pleaded for the renewal of the vehicle fleet.

“Sédhiou’s transporters urgently need a new vehicle fleet to make the sector attractive and profitable,” said Modou Fall.
He invited the authorities to provide the region with a new bus station.

Players in the cashew and mango sectors have requested support in terms of financing, inputs but above all in processing units to boost the region’s potential.

Rice producers, for their part, requested an allocation of production equipment.

Amadou Leye Konté, president of the Municipal Youth Council of Sédhiou, pleaded for the training and integration of young people in order to partially resolve unemployment.

He requested the completion of the rehabilitation work on the municipal and regional stadiums of Sédhiou but also the construction of new departmental stadiums in Goudomp and Bounkiling.

In his responses, the head of government maintained that given the agricultural potential of the region, it is necessary to focus on processing to create added value in order to resolve the problem of youth employment.

Amadou Ba promised that the State will release significant resources to install processing units in addition to the reforms that will be implemented to create industries in the region.

The PM says he is convinced that Sédhiou can alone feed a good part of Senegal, citing the significant production in sectors such as cashew nuts and mangoes.
