Prince Andrew got off lightly in the Epstein affair. At least that’s what Lisa Bloom, a lawyer for several of the late pedophile’s victims, thinks. She thinks his status would have helped him.

In November 2019, Prince Andrew set out to clear his name. In a wide-ranging, exclusive interview with BBC journalist Emily Maitlis, he went on to explain why he had such a close friendship with the late and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. And the royal also addressed allegations against himself. It ended disastrously.

Prince Andrew: Lawyer claims his status protected him

Andrew talked his head off, got caught up in contradictions and couldn’t really prove his alibi. Public amusement and outrage ensued in equal measure.

The fact that Andrew was never questioned by the FBI in the investigation into the Epstein case surprised not only Royal fans. US attorney Lisa Bloom, who represents several victims of the pedophile, is certain that Andrew’s royal status helped. “The FBI has clearly decided that it will not take action against Prince Andrew. This is a decision that had to be made at the highest level,” she suspects in the new documentary “Secrets of Prince Andrew”, from which the “Mirror” quotes . “We are talking about Prince Andrew – was this a diplomatic matter? Didn’t we want to put a strain on relations with the UK? Maybe?” the lawyer said.

Different treatment than non-royal

She thinks anyone else would have been tracked down and questioned by the FBI. “They would have spoken to witnesses and if they had had enough evidence, they would have handed him over to the United States to stand trial,” she said. His decision to appear on the BBC a few months after Epstein’s death in a New York prison was “insanely arrogant,” Bloom said in the documentary.
