A marriage deal with her husband Prince Albert II (64) is said to award her 12 million euros a year. Her children, twins Jacques and Gabriella (7), are to stay with their dad in Monaco. Charlène (44), Princess of Monaco, only has to be seen on official occasions in the Monegasque Prince’s Palace. Charlène will move to Geneva in Switzerland and will at least be able to see her children when they have school holidays.
The palace has always denied media reports of a rift between Charlene and Albert, who married in 2011. Rumors of a broken marriage persisted. The latest information supports this.
On the outside, the two keep their composure. So also on Saturday, at an official appearance with her children at a rugby tournament. But even Charlène’s make-up, bright sunshine and the multi-million dollar appanage could not hide the fact that the princess was not doing well. The Royal seemed lost in thought, even sad.
Lost in thought
Charlene wore simple makeup, a navy blue midi dress, and her platinum blonde hair slicked back. She also looked after her children tenderly, with Gabriella sitting on her lap for part of the event.
At Albert’s side, Charlène kept trying to smile. But the past few months have left their mark. Charlene has been struggling with a number of health issues for quite some time. The palace confirmed a “state of deep general fatigue” that kept the princess largely away from the public.
Exhaustion was written all over Charlène’s face on Saturday. In the stands, in front of everyone, the Princess of Monaco seemed absent and lost in thought. (kes)
