Producer and import prices continue to soar

Producer and import prices (PPI) continued to rise strongly in June. They were once once more supported by soaring hydrocarbon prices, noted Thursday the Federal Office of Statistics (FSO).

Compared to the previous month, this indicator climbed 0.3% to 109.8 points. Over one year, the PPI jumped 6.9%, the OFS said in a statement.

It was mainly import tariffs that contributed to this increase, with an acceleration of 12.1% compared to June 2021. The prices of petroleum products are mainly responsible for this acceleration, but also in particular vehicles and components for cars, computers and travel goods, leather goods and saddlery.

Producer prices, for their part, accelerated by 4.4%, driven up by the cost of carpentry and interior fittings, petroleum products, gas and dairy products.
