Following its sixth generation, GM announced today that production of the Chevrolet Camaro will officially end after the 2024 model year.
Chevy is also shipping the stylish Camaro in a limited production “Collector’s Edition” for the 2024 model year.
If you’re wondering what’s next for the Camaro, there isn’t a full answer available yet. All Chevy is prepared to say today is that the “Camaro” name will continue to be used in racing series such as NASCAR, IMSA, SRO, NHRA and Supercars Championship.
Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet, had more to add. “Although we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured this is not the end of the Camaro story.”
Exactly what that story continues will have to wait, but the Camaro as it stands today won’t be seen on dealer lots after the 2024 model year sells out.
The end will come even faster than you might imagine hearing model year 2024 as well. Chevy says the last Camaros will roll out of the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in January 2024, indicating that the final year will be short.
Among its competitors, production of the 2023 model year Dodge Charger and Challenger is scheduled to continue through December 31, 2023. Ford introduced the 2024 Mustang, in what is expected to be its last generation.
Although the Camaro will technically last one more model year, its production will end just a month after Dodge gives up its muscle cars.
As for the Collector’s Edition, Chevy isn’t releasing more than a few superficial details about it. It will be available as a package for the RS, SS and ZL1 models by 2024.
The automaker says it expects references to the development of the first-generation Camaro, particularly as an homage to the program’s codename: Panther.
Orders for the Collector’s Edition will begin in the summer of this year, and Chevy says it will expect a full breakdown of information at that time.
