Eight years in prison and five years of availability of the sentence enforcement court, this is the judgment that fell in the case of Professor de Comines who was prosecuted for acts of cyber predation. The pArquet had requested his immediate arrest but the Defense appealed. The former professor therefore remains free.

Recall that the man had pretended to be a teenager thanks to a fake profile on social networks. He had extracted intimate images from 200 young people.

The lack of questioning

The prosecution had demanded 8 years in prison. So he was followed. The charges ranged from cyber predation to rape. The man had contacted nearly 400 young people pretending to be a young teenager. Two hundred teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17 had been trapped. If the man was convicted for the acts of cyber predation, the court however acquitted him for the prevention of rape for a technical reason. The facts date from before 2018, the date of the former Sexual Penal Code.

In his judgment, the magistrate noted “the total absence of questioning” of the defendant who would not have “taken the measure of the seriousness of his actions”. The judge also pointed to the “Machiavellianism” et “limited empathy” of the professor whose he underlined “need for ancestry on minors”. He also blames the man “to have passed on his need for recognition at the expense of the victims”.
