The bill (PL) that provides for a discount on ICMS for taxi drivers who buy electric and hybrid cars was presented by state deputy Dionísio Lins (Progressive), president of the Transport Commission of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro, encouraging the category’s adherence to sustainable cars.
The proposal aims to encourage the modernization of the taxi fleet, reduce the emission of polluting gases and facilitate professionals’ access to more economical and sustainable vehicles. According to the text, the benefit would be valid for legal taxi drivers, registered with the competent municipal body, and who have not purchased a vehicle exempt or not subject to ICMS in the last two years.
Furthermore, the vehicle could only be used as a taxi and purchase would be limited to one per person. The project still needs to be voted on by other parliamentarians and sanctioned
