Italy confiscates Mazepin villa in Sardinia

The Italian financial police have confiscated a villa belonging to former Formula 1 driver Nikita Mazepin as part of the sanctions against Russian oligarchs. As the authorities announced, the more than 100 million euro property called Villa “Rocky Ram” in Porto Cervo on the famous Costa Smeralda in the north-east of the Mediterranean island of Sardinia is attributed to the motor sportsman and his father Dmitri, the head of a mineral fertilizer company and co-owner of a mining company.
He is considered a confidante of Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin; Father and son Mazepin got on the EU sanctions list because of the Ukraine war. The Guardia di Finanza assumes that the villa and the property, including a pool embedded in the rocks of the bay on the Costa Smeralda, belong to a foreign Mazepin company. The Italians have been cracking down on homes and luxury yachts owned by Russian oligarchs since the outbreak of war and the imposition of sanctions.
The 23-year-old Mazepin was a driver for the US racing team Haas in Formula 1 and teammate of Mick Schumacher until the beginning of March. Shortly before the start of the season, however, the team parted ways with the Russian and main sponsor Uralkali, the same mining company that his father Dmitri partly owns, as a result of the outbreak of war.
