Proposed Increase in Speed Limit to 150 km/h in Italy and Czech Republic: Latest Updates and Benefits

2023-08-09 19:33:33

Italy and the Czech Republic, two countries where the current speed limit is 130 km/h, might well increase to 150 km/h as early as next year. A bill which should come into force on January 1, 2024 is validated in the Czech Republic. In Italy, a law allowing this has already existed for 20 years, but has never been implemented, which the current Minister of Transport has promised to do.

In Italy, this would only apply to 2×3 lanes with emergency lanes, i.e. around 1,500 km of motorway, with frequent checks via section radars.

The main argument put forward is that allowing higher speeds will sensitize motorists to adopt “safe” driving.
