Jeon Ju-hwan (31), who was handed over to trial for murdering a woman he was stalking at Sindang Station (retaliation murder under the Aggravated Punishment Act for Specific Crimes), was sentenced by the prosecution to seek the death penalty, the highest sentence in court.

The prosecution asked the court to sentence Mr. Chun to death at the trial held on the 10th at the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Agreement 25-1 Division (Judge Park Jeong-gil) hearing. A 30-year attachment order for location tracking electronics was also requested.

Prosecutors said, “The accused killed the victim not because there was any extenuating reason, but because he was placed in a situation where he would receive criminal punishment in return for the crime he committed himself.” It will be punished,” he explained the reason for the sentence. The reason was that Jeon had carefully planned the crime, such as checking the victim’s work schedule before committing the crime and installing a location information system (GPS) manipulation application that made it appear that he was in a different place. “The accused was calm and emotionally unsettled enough to read a webtoon to soothe boredom before killing the victim in a public place. The same was true when committing a crime. The victim was repeatedly stabbed to the same depth,” he explained.

Seowon University Counseling Psychology Professor Kim Tae-gyeong, who appeared as an expert witness in court that day, also testified that “the defendant was calm enough to ask himself to ‘give me a knife’ in the video of the crime reenactment.” did. He also said that “the risk of recidivism is not small,” saying that when Jeon encounters a situation that is against his interests, he seems to be able to infringe on the other party’s rights.

Even in his final statement, Mr. Jeon showed a calm appearance. After sighing once, he said, “I apologize to the victims and their bereaved families. I am regretting and reflecting on all my actions. I will live with a heart of atonement without forgetting my mistakes for the rest of my life.” Mr. Jeon’s lawyer said, “Please take a look at the fact that a long-term prison sentence can be expected to prevent recidivism.”

The sentencing hearing will be held on the 7th of next month.

In September of last year, Jeon stabbed and killed a fellow Seoul Transportation Corporation employee who had been stalking him for two years in the women’s bathroom at Sindang Station on Subway Line 2. While on trial after being charged with stalking and illegal filming, he killed the victim a day before the sentencing when he was expected to receive a heavy sentence. In the first trial of the stalking crime, Mr. Jeon was sentenced to 9 years in prison, but Mr. Jeon and his victim’s family all appealed, so the second trial is in progress.
