The new development is that a prosecutorial investigation has been ordered by the head of the Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office, Antonis Eleftherianos, regarding the leakage of e-mail data of residents abroad which came into the possession of New Democracy MEP Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou.

In the context of the preliminary examination, which was assigned to the prosecutor of the first instance, Giorgos Noulis, the offenses of violation of the legislation on personal data and violation of official confidentiality will be investigated.

In the matter of personal data that arose with the sending of emails to expatriates by MEP Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou, the Minister of the Interior mentioned, among others Niki Kerameos.

In particular, Niki Kerameos, speaking to ERT, stated that the MEP has given and will continue to give answers about where she found the emails, and then she mentioned to the Ministry of the Interior that she does not give anyone information about citizens.

In fact, he added that “we will not leave any shadow in this case, it concerns the adequacy of data security for the electoral rolls of 2023 while it has nothing to do with postal voting”.

At the same time, Ms. Kerameos emphasized that the MEP stated that she did not receive a relevant list from the Ministry of the Interior and reminded that the Personal Data Protection Authority is also conducting a check.

Then, Niki Kerameos continued by saying: “The opposition is using this event as a tool because it had voted against the postal vote”, while regarding the first elements of response, she stated that “on the issue of the postal vote, we touch the 94 countries between them and countries that do not they had operated polling centers in the last elections and 23,000 applications”.
