The Prosecutor’s Office requested to formalize the mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue (PC), for bribery, treasury fraud, fraud and unfair administration in the framework of the “Popular Pharmacies” case, which investigates possible corruption in the purchase and sale of supplies from the Association Chilean Municipalities with Popular Pharmacies (Achifarp) during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The pursuing entity began investigating the mayor since mid-2022 in his role as president of the now defunct association.
What was being investigated was the commission of alleged corruption crimes in the purchase of medical supplies from Achifarp to the supplier company Best Quality.
The investigation by the pursuing entity began after Best Quality filed a complaint against Daniel Jadue for alleged bribery in the process of purchasing masks for Achifarp.
The judicial action was based on the information collected in the investigation into the alleged scam that affected the importer of medical supplies and on the report of the Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR), which detected irregularities in the management of popular pharmacies.
Specifically, it would have been an alleged payment of bribes that was revealed after the statement in November 2021 of the commission agent César Ramírez before the prosecutor Giovanna Herrera, of the North Central Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office.
In the instance, Ramírez said that to achieve the sale for more than $1 billion to Achifarp, the company had to deliver on July 1, 2020 at the headquarters of the Communist Party (PC) in Recoleta, masks, drums of alcohol gel, disposable gloves and bibs. Supplies that were valued at $20 million.
The mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue, assured his innocence.
“It is finally the beginning of my right to defense, which will allow me to demonstrate my complete innocence in court. From the first day I have collaborated with the investigation and I have opened all my bank accounts, email accounts, everything necessary,” he stated through a video published on his social networks.
