Protect Children: Donate to Middle East & Global Crisis Relief

Israeli airstrikes targeted locations in Beirut overnight, escalating a conflict now entering its sixth day and drawing in multiple nations across the Middle East. The strikes, reported by Lebanese state media, came in response to missile launches from Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group backed by Iran, according to multiple reports.

The conflict originated with reported U.S. And Israeli strikes against Iranian targets, followed by retaliatory missile and drone attacks launched by Iran against Israel and other countries in the region. Iran has vowed “more intense and widespread” attacks if the strikes continue, according to CBS News, matching escalatory rhetoric from U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

The war’s reach is expanding geographically. Azerbaijan reported drone attacks that injured two people and damaged an airport terminal near its border with Iran, though Iranian armed forces denied responsibility, suggesting a possible false-flag operation by Israel. Simultaneously, the U.S. Navy sank an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka, according to CNN reporting.

The escalating violence is straining resources in the region. America’s Gulf allies are “rapidly running out of interceptors” to defend against Iranian missiles and drones, CBS News reported, citing sources within the U.S. Government. The U.S. State Department has begun assisting with the evacuation of American citizens from the Middle East, acknowledging criticism of pre-war planning.

The U.S. Senate rejected a resolution Wednesday that would have limited President Trump’s war powers, voting 47 to 53 against the measure. A similar vote is expected in the House on Thursday. Top U.S. Officials have warned that further strikes within Iran are planned and that the current operation is in its early stages.

The United Nations has issued a statement expressing concern over the escalating conflict, noting that it is disrupting airspace, transport, and daily life, and raising fears of a wider regional conflict. The UN also highlighted the impact on civilians, particularly children, with aid organizations warning that already stretched resources in neighboring countries like Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan will be further burdened by displacement.

Concerns are growing about potential attacks on U.S. Soil, with security analysts describing the situation as “an all-hands-on-deck moment.” Iran has launched over 1,600 drones at Israel, Jordan, Persian Gulf nations, and Cyprus, according to the Institute for National Security Studies in Israel.
