We pay a lot of attention to reservations for so-called garden-type restaurants on the outskirts of cities or rural areas, especially for group guests.

There are a series of scams targeting this point.

They impersonate themselves as military executives and steal money by tricking soldiers into thinking they are having a group dinner.

Let’s take a look at reporter Jeon Jae-woong’s report.

A restaurant in a mountain village.

Ahead of last weekend, I received a reservation phone call.

He is an administrative supply officer at a nearby unit and wants to make a reservation for a group meal.

The reservation amount was over 1 million won for 50 people.

″Since we are now a unit, we have about 50 people. If you just do the chicken (white-boiled), we can take it and move with it‥″

The administrative supply officer also sent me a document, saying it was a receipt issued by the unit.

Then, he said that he was having a company dinner for executives and immediately demanded to buy 3 million won worth of fruit.

″There is a place where there is a contract between the unit and the farm. What matters now is whether the boss can get some delivery. to be honest.”

These are fruits that soldiers will eat, and they say they will come to a company dinner and pay for the fruits all at once.

The restaurant owner spoke directly to the orchard that the supply officer connected him with and sent money.

″I heard you signed a new contract with the military. Your order has arrived. Is it Jeollabuk-do? Wow, you met me over there in my hometown.”

But both the so-called soldier and the orchard owner were fraudsters.

On the same day, a restaurant in Imsil also received an order for boiled pork exceeding 1.5 million won.

″They said it was the Daegok-ri military base. Stay there. Daegok-ri. The military unit is the 35th Division, Imsil. Since it was the 35th Division, I didn’t even suspect it…”

It is understood that there have been five recent reservation fraud calls in Imsil and Jinan, where military bases are located, and the police are investigating two of these.

Imsil-gun issued a ‘fraud warning’ by sending text messages to 500 local restaurants.
