Protecting Canadians Online: Combating Spam, Fraud, and Cybersecurity Threats

The Canadian Internet Use Survey reveals that unsolicited spam is the most common form of cybersecurity incident followed by the receipt of fraudulent content. In fact, 6% of Canadians have reported financial losses related to various online security issues.

Fake news and hateful content

The vast majority of Canadians (73%) say they have noticed fake news or misinformation online. Half of Canadians have seen hateful content on the Internet in 2022, once more according to the Statistics Canada survey.

Few people are not connected to the country: 95% of people aged 15 and over use the Internet. 84% of people in the country have an Internet connection on a mobile device.
