Protecting Your Baby: The Hidden Dangers of Bedtime Accessories

2023-07-10 20:55:32

Warning to parents When putting your children to bed, pay attention to the accessories your baby is wearing, some might be deadly, according to baby and child first aid organization CPR Kids.

At bedtime, it is important to remove your baby’s hat or hooded cardigan. “If your child’s face is uncovered at night, it can reduce the risk of sudden or unexpected death,” the organization told The Mirror.

According to Br Bec Thornton, health promotion manager at Red Nose, removing these accessories can reduce the risk of suffocation for the child.

Also, these hats and hoodies can cause overheating, since babies regulate their body temperature with their head and face.

This happens to over 200 babies in the UK each year. The greatest risk would be when they are six months and under and when they are sleeping.

In a Facebook post by CPR Kids, they mention that taking these precautions before your baby goes to bed can reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SBS).
