Cyber piracy operations and the importance of information security are not limited to the level of countries and bodies, but also to the level of individuals. To maintain information security, computer systems must be periodically updated in order to protect them from any risks when connected to the Internet.

A recent study revealed that there are more than 1.8 million computers in Germany that run old Windows systems that have not been updated for years. These computers are used to connect to the Internet even though they do not have any protection against any security threats on the Internet.

The study conducted by the information technology security company ESET and published on Sunday in the German capital, Berlin, stated that most of the unsecured systems – numbering about 1.5 million devices – are still running the Windows 7 operating system, which has no longer been updated to fill security gaps in it for about Four years.

According to the company, there are still some devices running Windows 8, Windows 1.8, or even the XP operating system, the last update of which was issued by Microsoft 15 years ago.

The company’s information technology security expert, Torsten Orbasinki, said, “It is disappointing to see that despite the launch of media campaigns over many years, millions of German users are still using old Windows operating systems,” warning that these users, male and female, are exposing their devices at home or work to risks. Serious when using the Internet with these devices.

Urbanski explained that cybercriminals can easily attack such unsecured devices, and warned that the presence of any security vulnerability in computer applications that use these versions of Windows systems is sufficient to hack the device and seize all of its owner’s data.
