A protest march against the house detention of Paolo Falzone, the perpetrator, took place this Saturday along the route of the Strépy-Bracquegnies tragedy. Several balloons were released into the sky, at the locations where the deceased victims were struck. Between 200 and 300 people joined this event, according to the organizers.

This Saturday, the association of victims of the Strépy tragedy organized a rally to decry the law which allowed Paolo Falzone to leave prison. Several balloons were released into the sky, to pay tribute to Salvatore Imperiale, Frédéric D’Andrea, Micheline Imperiale, Laure Gara, Mario Cascarano and Frédéric Cicero. At the end of the journey, a moment of contemplation was observed in front of the stele where 100 additional balloons flew away.

We want to challenge the political authorities on the release under electronic bracelet of Mr. Falzone, even if at the level of the judicial system, we hear that it is an incarceration“, specifies the spokesperson for the association Nicolas D’Andrea, on a decision applied precisely a month ago by the investigating judge of the Mons public prosecutor’s office. She decided that the investigation deadline had passed .”The fact that he is in residence does not imply a ban on visits, he can do what he wants at home, freely. We rather liken it to luxury confinement, compared to detention. She simply belongs in prison. There is no other possibility in my opinion“, confides Mr. D’Andrea.

This protest march is the first in a series of actions which aims to publicize the cause of the victims, particularly in the psychological and daily impact caused by the deaths of the six people. They were then participating in the Strépy-Bracquegnies carnival collection on March 22, 2022, when Paolo Falzone hit them with his car.
