The residents reported that for a year the Familia Michoacana has been attacking them with drones to make them leave their communities, however, they affirmed that they will resist the attacks and harassment of the criminals.
“Here we have our heritage, we have a life here, it is the only thing we have, our house, our lands, and if the government does not support us here with security, do you think that once we leave our town we will have some support? by the government?”
In 2023, dozens of towns have been forced to move due to attacks by the Familia Michoacana.
At the beginning of 2024, in the community of Buenavista de los Hurtado, in the municipality of Heliodoro Castillo, it was attacked, even with drones, by alleged members of the Familia Michoacana.
In this attack, according to what was documented by the director of the Center for the Defense of the Rights of Victims of Violence, Minerva Bello, the priest Filiberto Vázquez Florencio, 10 residents were murdered, 6 were injured and 14 were missing.
The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) stated that the murders were a confrontation between the Familia Michoacana and Los Tlacos, however, the priest has maintained that it was an attack by the Familia Michoacana against the town.
