Rumors of the so-called PS5 Slim have circulated pretty much since the launch of the PS5 itself. And perhaps for good reason — the latter is so bulky that gamers are clamoring for a more elegant design. But if those new leaked images purporting to show the new console look anything but, fans may be disappointed. Images began circulating this weekend of a new console box, codenamed “CFI-2016.” It looks very much like the current PS5. Unlike previous “Slim” versions of Sony’s PlayStation consoles, it looks like the PS5 iteration won’t deviate from the original formula. (Don’t want to wait? As spotted by The Verge, images of the new model’s alleged exterior case appeared on Chinese forums before a video appeared on the Australian PlayStation repair specialist’s Twitter page (below). The case in the leaked video doesn’t look much different from the current PS5 (Image credit: future) but while it certainly looks smaller and lighter (we’d be hard pressed to wave our own PS5 around with one hand like that), there’s no denying that the design looks a lot like the PS5 itself. Much mocked – the same, with the addition of a black horizontal stripe on the front of the case and an additional USB-C port. We’ve already heard that the next iteration of the PS5 will feature a removable drive, and it looks like it might as well. Needless to say, Twitter users reacted quite happily to the suggestion that this could be called a “slim” console. “Is this like a 1950s gangster movie joke where a fat jerk gets called Slim?” One user comments, while another simply adds, “They, uh… really missed the ‘Slim’ tag here, huh?” People call this PS5 Slim, but we’re going from PS5 THICCC to PS5 THICC.
