PS5 Slim: reduced size should not be a problem for memory expansion

2023-10-15 06:26:00

Launched last Tuesday (10), the brand new version of the PlayStation 5 became known as “Slim” due to its slightly more compact body compared to the traditional version. And it appears that this should not compromise other aspects of the Sony console.

To the international portal IGN, a spokesperson for the Japanese giant confirmed that the new PS5 Slim you will still have room for an additional SSD.

Therefore, if the 1 TB of storage available in the new version of the console is still not enough, it will still be possible to increase the device’s internal storage by purchasing extra storage.

With NVMe SSD support, Sony highlights that to be compatible with the PS5, the SSD must be connected via M.2, support the PCIe Gen4 bus and have a minimum speed of 5,500 MB/s.

Although the new version of the console has 1 TB of storage, it is not yet known how much of this storage will be available to the user. In the original PS5, the 825GB SSD offered 667GB of storage for downloads.

In any case, with the confirmation of support for extra storage, anyone purchasing a compatible SSD should not have any problems with space on the new version of the console.

Launched very recently, the Slim version of the PlayStation 5 will go on sale next November, with international distribution expected to take place in the following months. There is still no forecast for arrival in Brazil.

The new version will be sold in different versions and has additional accessories.
