PSG Corruption Scandal: The Shocking Revelations and Messi’s Ballon d’Or Controversy

French media Mediapart and Le Mont made a shocking revelation on January 6 that Paris Saint-Germain team officials are involved in an attempt to help Lionel Messi win the 2021 Ballon d’Or. According to documents found by police officers, PSG and France Football’s former editor-in-chief Pascal Ferre maintained a ‘very close relationship’.

Records suggest Ferre received several ‘gifts’ from officials in his bid to win a seventh Ballon d’Or during Messi’s time at PSG. These prizes include VIP tickets for multiple games, a business class ticket on Qatar Airways (a title sponsor of PSG), and many other perks.

During the investigation, the name of former PSG director Jean-Marcial Ribes, who has been indicted on charges of ‘corruption’ and ‘influence trading’, has come up several times. Current President Nasser al-Khelaifi’s name also appears several times. Messi won the award that year.
