Law No. 210 of 2020 amending some provisions of the Psychiatric Patient Care Law promulgated by Law No. 71 of 2009 prohibits non-doctors from practicing the profession of psychotherapy without a license to do so.
The law stipulates that the license application must be submitted to the aforementioned committee through a technical secretariat formed by a decision of the competent minister of health, which is responsible for receiving or renewing license applications. The committee maintains a copy of the records for registering and renewing issued licenses in exchange for a fee not exceeding two thousand pounds in accordance with the controls and procedures specified by the regulations. The license is valid for seven years, and is not renewed except after passing a test for this purpose or obtaining specialized training in accredited bodies to develop his clinical capabilities and skills, in accordance with what the committee determines. The law defines psychotherapy as a type of treatment practiced by a psychiatrist or non-psychiatrist, under the supervision of the aforementioned doctor, in which communication and social interaction skills are used to evaluate and treat non-consensual or dysfunctional responses, whether in emotion, thinking, or behavior. Treatments include: Cognitive, behavioral, humanistic, and other types of treatments that prove effective.
The psychotherapist is also defined as the one who implements the psychological treatment plan under the supervision of the psychiatrist.
