Kottayam: UDF district chairman Dominic Presentation said that PT Thomas, who died while he was the Thrikkakara MLA, owes between Rs 75 lakh and Rs 1 crore and the party should take over. ‘The party’s taking on PT’s financial responsibilities is the biggest help he can do for his family. The party should also bear the education expenses of the youngest son, ‘he suggested.
In his affidavit submitted during the last assembly elections, PT Thomas had stated that he owed Rs 57.31 lakh. This includes home loans, auto loans and personal loans. However, in addition to this, he is also liable for bail of Rs 14 lakh for retrieving the body of an Idukki resident from a private hospital. Close colleagues also pointed out that the MLA had a liability of Rs 18 lakh on rent of the office.
