Public Health Barometer France 2024: launch of the survey

2024-02-11 22:00:00

Since 1992, the French Public Health Barometers have made it possible to describe, on a large scale, the opinions, knowledge and habits related to the health of the population living in France. They help define prevention policies and adapt information campaigns. Thus, from February 12, 2024, nearly 80,000 people residing in mainland France and in four overseas departments and regions (Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana and Reunion) are invited to participate in this 2024 edition. The results of this study will be made public in 2025.

Why is it important that each person selected agrees to respond?

This survey allows us to better understand the opinions and health habits of the population residing in France with the aim of guiding prevention policies and setting up information campaigns as close as possible to the population. It also enriches knowledge on the state of health of the population living in France, for indicators not covered by other surveys or by other surveillance systems. The results are therefore valuable for all researchers and stakeholders involved in the field of public health.
The people drawn at random form a sample which reflects all situations in France. This sample offers a small but faithful image of the population, but for this, the participation of all those invited is essential.

How is the investigation going?

The French Public Health Barometer is based on questioning representative samples of the population. The selected people are informed by mail (and/or by email) and are invited to complete a questionnaire lasting an average of 30 minutes. Data collection is entrusted to the polling institute Ipsos.

The site www.barometre-spf.fr provides useful information to all people selected to participate. Public Health France thanks in advance all the people selected for their collaboration and the time they will devote to the investigation.

The French Public Health Barometer is evolving

From 2024, the survey will adopt a new method to improve the quality of the statistics produced and better meet user expectations. The objectives of the survey were defined with our supervisory authorities and main partners. Thus, the Barometer will produce regional results every 2 years, to be useful to local stakeholders.

The quality of the new survey methodology allowed it to become a public statistics survey. Indeed, the Public Health Barometer France obtained a favorable opinion of opportunity from the National Council for Statistical Information, the label of general interest and statistical quality from the Public Statistics Label Committee, a favorable opinion from the Committee of Expertise for Research, Studies and Evaluations in the field of Health, and authorization from the CNIL (Deliberation 2023-127). This survey is mandatory.
