“Purge” Case: Judges and a former legislator fall in mega-operation against corruption in Ecuador 2024-03-21 02:28:12

Early this Monday, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and the National Police of Ecuador carried out an operation that resulted in the arrest of several judges and a former legislator in the framework of the “Purga” case, which is investigating a crime network. organized in the justice system of the province of Guayas.

So far, there are 12 people arrested, including the former president of the Court of Justice of Guayas, María Fabiola GR, the provincial judge Johan Gustavo M. and the former parliamentarian Pablo M. along with his wife Mónica A.

The operations included 12 raids, one of them at the home of the current president of the Court of Justice of Guayas, Hugo González. During the investigations, various evidence was found, such as: documentation, Jewelry, Electronic and storage equipment, Firearms, Cash, Rolex Watches and Liquor.

The “Purga” case derives from the “Metastasis” investigation, which investigates a criminal structure allegedly at the service of drug trafficker Leandro Norero, now deceased. Attorney General Diana Salazar Méndez has described it as the largest operation against corruption and drug trafficking in the history of the country.
