Putin: We will strengthen our interest in nuclear weapons and we will deploy intercontinental missiles

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia will continue to pay increased attention to strengthening its nuclear forces and will begin mass deliveries of Zircon hypersonic sea-launched missiles.

In a speech marking the Defender of the Fatherland holiday, Putin also said that Russia will continue to equip its armed forces with advanced equipment.

Putin made his remarks two days following announcing that Russia would suspend its participation in the New START treaty, the last remaining arms control agreement with Washington. The treaty limits the deployment of nuclear warheads to both countries.

Putin said that for the first time, Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles, a weapon capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads, will be deployed this year..

“We will continue mass production of the Kinzhal hypersonic air systems, and we will start providing massive supplies of hypersonic Zircon sea-launched missiles,” he added.
