Putin’s daughters also “pay” for their father’s actions, so they were sanctioned

The European Union (EU) imposed this Friday sanctions against more than 200 peoplebetween them the two daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putinand against several oligarchs close to the president, in the framework of measures adopted for the invasion of Ukraine.

Maria Vorontsova and Katerina Tikhonova born respectively in 1985 and 1986, have already been the target of sanctions in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The list, published in the Official Journal of the EU, includes another 217 natural persons and 18 companies with their directors, who they will have their assets blocked and prohibited from entering the 27 countries of the bloc.

Maria Vorontsova is sanctioned for her role in Nomenko, a company for investment projects in the health sector, which provides “substantial sources of revenue” to the Russian government, according to the Official Gazette. His sister Katerina Tikhonova runs a fund to help young scientists, created by companies whose leaders “are members of the circle of oligarchs close” to Putin.

sanctioned by the UK

The United Kingdom also announced this Friday sanctions on Maria and Katerina, as well as Yekaterina Vinokurova, daughter of Lavrov, who are now prohibited from entering the European country, where their assets will be frozen, the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. The sanctions are given by attacking the “splendid lifestyle of the circle close to the Kremlin”in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The UK had already sanctioned Polina Kovaleva, the daughter of Lavrov’s alleged long-term mistress.

Ensuring that all the sanctions decided so far will cause an economic crisis in Russia unprecedented since the fall of the Soviet Union, the head of British diplomacy considered that more must still be approved.

“In the G7, we are working with our partners to end the consumption of Russian energy and further hitting Putin’s ability to finance his invasion illegal and unjustified Ukraine,” said Liz Truss, quoted in the statement. “Together, we are tightening the screws on Russia’s war machine, cutting off Putin’s sources of money,” she added.

The UK has sanctioned more than 1,200 people and companies – including 76 oligarchs – since the Russian military offensive began on February 24
