Vienna City Hall will soon act as an electricity supplier: at the end of September, a photovoltaic system installed on the roof of the municipal power center will go into operation. A total of 572 solar modules, each with 0.41 kWp (kilowatt peak), will be in use. This was announced on Tuesday during a visit from Mayor Michael Ludwig and Housing Councilor Kathrin Gaal (both SPÖ) to lofty heights.

The calculated yield is around 223,000 kilowatt hours. According to the town hall, this can cover the electricity consumption of around 110 households. The annual CO2 savings were estimated at around 130 tons. It was emphasized that the PV system was installed on the listed town hall in such a way that it is only visible from a bird’s eye view.

The town hall is not the first official building to be equipped with photovoltaics. Corresponding systems are already in operation in eight official buildings, and four more are in the process of being implemented.
