One of the main objectives of the ‘Vision 2030’ formulated by Crown Prince Amir Mohammed bin Salman is the nurturing of the nation’s non-oil sources of income. After 10 days of this year’s date fair, the report that sales of 8 crore riyals were made is considered as an indication of the achievement of the governorate’s goal. In Buraidah, the provincial capital, the date fair is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Environment, the Culinary Arts Authority and the municipality, while in the second city, Unaisa, the Chamber of Commerce is the initiative for the fair.
The governor visited the chamber to assess its preparations and gave suggestions for involving the native youth community in the fair. Amir Faisal came in person to inaugurate the harvest of dates in the relatively small area of Shamasiya, much to the delight of the farmers.
