Qatar and the French company TotalEnergies have signed two liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreements for a period of 27 years, Qatar Energy announced on Wednesday.

“Subsidiaries of QatarEnergy and TotalEnergies have signed two sales and purchase agreements to supply up to 3.5 million tonnes per year of LNG from Qatar to France”said the gas giant of the Gulf emirate in a press release, specifying that deliveries will begin in 2026 for a period of 27 years.

As a reminder, since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow has significantly reduced its gas pipeline deliveries to the EU, pushing states to urgently reorganize their supplies. They thus increased their LNG purchases by 70% last year, with more than 40% coming from the United States.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) also warned this Tuesday of possible tensions in Europe on the gas market, particularly in the event of a cold winter and new restrictions on the transport of Russian gas to the gas pipelines, according to a report on the gas market outlook for 2026 published on Tuesday.
