“Qatar and UAE to Reopen Embassies: Positive Progress in Technical Committee Meetings”

DOHA, April 18 (Xinhua) — The Qatari Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are expected to reopen their respective embassies in the coming weeks.

Majed bin Mohammad al-Ansari, spokesman for the Qatari ministry, announced this information during a weekly press briefing.

On this occasion, the spokesperson highlighted that there was positive progress in the meetings of the technical committees that are working to facilitate the reopening of their respective embassies.

“The matter is currently in the realm of procedure and the reopening of embassies should take place in a few weeks,” he noted.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt had severed diplomatic relations with Qatar in 2017 and imposed sanctions and blockades on the small Gulf state, due to geopolitical disputes.

At the Gulf Cooperation Council summit in January 2021, Saudi Arabia and other countries agreed to restore relations with Qatar to end the crisis. END
