Qatar Municipality Crackdown: Illegal Residential Unit Divisions Fined and Punished

2023-12-11 07:33:32

Doha ∙ The authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against those who make illegal divisions in residential units. Salim Hamoud Al Shafi, director of the Municipal Control Department of Doha Municipality, warned that illegal subdivisions will be subject to legal action, including the imposition of fines, as dividing villas without permission poses a risk to residents. A fine of 500 Rials per square meter and 400 Rials per linear meter is levied for illegal subdivision. If the violation is rectified, the fine will be reduced to 50 percent.

Villas can be altered with the permission of the authorities following the rules. Illegal partitioning can put the lives of residents at risk in case of accidents like fire. The civil defense authorities are not aware of the map of the building after the illegal partition. This will put the lives of the residents at risk. The authorities can know the information about the new alteration of the building if the partition is against the permission. The director also pointed out that services related to electricity, water (Kahrama) and infrastructure will also be severely affected.

Due to misuse of Kahrama services and disproportionate number of occupants, the illegally subdivided residential units will also affect the surrounding areas. In an interview with Qatar Radio, Al Shafi explained the dangers and measures of illegal villa subdivision. If you notice such violations, call 184.
