Doha ∙ Qatar has become the best performing country in the world in terms of tourist arrivals till July this year. This is according to the latest United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) World Tourism Barometer. International visitor arrivals to Qatar increased by more than 95 percent from January to July. This is the highest rate globally. More than 25 lakh visitors have arrived in the last 7 months. Most of them came from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
There has also been a huge increase in the number of passengers passing through Hamad International Airport in the first half of the year, with more than 2 million passengers. 33.5 percent increase over the previous year. Qatar Tourism is running various programs to boost domestic tourism. 3 million people are expected to attend the Doha Expo, which runs from October 2 to March 28. October has many events to attract visitors like Formula One, Moto GP and Geneva Motor Show.
Hence, the number of visitors to the country will increase further in the next 3 months. In general, the number of visitors to the Middle East has increased by more than 20 percent compared to pre-Covid times. The Middle East is the only region in the world to exceed 2019 levels during this period. Countries including Saudi Arabia and Jordan have seen huge growth in visitor flow. International tourism has managed to reach 84 percent of its pre-Covid levels.
