Doha നടപട Intensify measures aimed at self-sufficiency in local agricultural production.

The financial support provided directly by the government helps the farmers to increase their production. The ministry provides financial assistance of 7 crore riyals per annum.

Dr. Masood Jaralla Almari, Director of Food Safety at the Ministry of Municipalities, said that the Ministry’s financial support and facilities provided by the Qatar Development Bank have been instrumental in boosting production in the vegetable, poultry, meat, table egg and fish sectors.

According to the Qatar National Food Security Policy (2018-2023), 21 per cent self-sufficiency in red meat has been achieved. The target is 30 per cent by 2023. In the case of table eggs, the current 50 per cent will be increased to 70 per cent. Several new projects are under construction.

Production will begin later this year. The country has already become self-sufficient in fresh chicken and milk.

Different species of fish are being produced in the projects aimed at increasing local fish production. The Aquatic Research Center in Ras Matbak produces juvenile fish such as hamur and safi. Dr. Almari said the plans are to accelerate production in the coming years.
