Qi2: 15 W charging for the iPhone 15 at Mophie

Like Anker and Belkin before her, Mophie reveals its first range of Qi2 chargers. The new inductive charging standard promoted by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), which derives from the MagSafe specification developed by Apple, should be introduced by the iPhone 15. A few days before its presentationthe main props lead the load… at 15 W.

Mophie’s lineup will include a 3-in-1 charger that can hold an Apple Watch and AirPods in addition to an iPhone ($129.95), a 5,000mAh battery with a retractable kickstand ($69.95 ) and a mount for ventilation grilles ($69.95). All three accessories will be able to charge Qi2-compatible devices at 15W… sooner or later. If the battery and mount are advertised for “later in the year”the 3-in-1 charger will not be available until the first quarter of 2024.

The next iPhones will remain compatible with the MagSafe specification, but the Qi2 standard will allow them to be charged at 15 W without the MagSafe certification or the fees that go with it. Suffice to say that these first announcements are only the beginning of a wave of Qi2 accessories in the coming weeks and months.
