Qiantu K20, a sporty and affordable electric city car?

Qiantu K20Qiantu came close to bankruptcy with its K50 supercar. With the K20 city car, the Chinese brand is back in business with a more affordable offer, but still with a high performance ambition.

After several years as a prototype, the Qiantu K50 electric supercar officially hit the market in 2018. Ambitions were such that a deal was signed for production in the United States in partnership with Mullen. Success was clearly not there and production ceased in 2020. Since then, the brand had hardly given any news and it was even thought that it had simply closed its doors.

0 to 100 km/h in less than 5 seconds

This is obviously not the case since Qiantu has just launched a new model on the Chinese market. The K20 was announced by two concept cars in 2018 and 2019. If the manufacturer has abandoned its supercar project, it nevertheless remains in a niche of rather sporty models. It is indeed a small, very compact 2-seater coupe (less than 4 meters), which boasts both high performance and a tight price. With its 160 kW / 218 hp and 4-wheel drive, it boasts a 0 to 100 km/h achieved in 4.7 s. Thanks also to the weight of only 780 kg.

A two-wheel-drive version is also on the program. It is also she who offers the longest autonomy: 500 km in the NEDC cycle (autonomy not communicated for the 4-wheel drive model). It is also the least expensive: only 86,800 RMB, or 12,200 euros. The 4×4 version costs 149,800 RMB (21,100 euros). Qiantu is also embarking on battery rental formulas to further lower its price.

The exterior style remains faithful to the concept, with a front end quite close to the late K50 and a very massive rear. On board, a modern atmosphere is mixed with a group of three screens that surround the driving position and other much more austere ones such as the absence of a central console or armrest, or window controls that recall certain Hondas of the 80s…

Deliveries of the K20 are due to begin this fall. A 5-door version, the K25, is planned for next year.
