Quantum computing faces several headwinds

2023-08-19 08:02:00

We are still very far from a winter of quantum computing, but the sky, in recent months, has become cluttered with a few clouds. Promising, these computers today in the state of prototypes – but which might in the future solve problems for the moment insoluble in the search for drugs, the evaluation of financial risks or the optimization of transport – come up once morest to new hesitations from customers in the sector.

Difficult to assess, this nascent market would have represented more than 600 million dollars in revenue in 2022 according to the specialized market research firm Hyperion, or even exceeded the billion dollar mark according to its competitor IDC. But by integrating the current questions of the quantum ecosystem, the latter has just revised downwards its sales prospects for suppliers, ranging from IBM or Atos to start-ups such as D-Wave or the French Pasqual, Alice & Bob and Quandela.
