It was time to slide in Quebec on Saturday, while the beautiful weather probably prompted hundreds of people to go out and hurtle down three popular coasts of the capital transformed into slides as part of the Quebec Carnival.
Whether on the rue de la Promenade-des-Sœurs, in the Ross coast or even in the Pente-Douce coast, the numerous visitors were all lining up, smiles on their faces, impatient to be able to slide down the slopes in the warm and festive atmosphere of the Cité de ski.

Some even traveled several dozen kilometers to soak up the Carnival atmosphere and enjoy the activities this weekend. This is the case of Johanne Lacerte and Guy Lecompte, who traveled from Victoriaville to enjoy the activities in the company of two couples of friends.
“It’s really well organized. It’s festive and we feel that people are in a good mood and want to have fun. We really don’t regret having taken the route,” says Mr. Lecompte.

A little too beautiful
For her part, the general director of the Carnival, Marie-Ève Jacob, says she is delighted to see the population’s enthusiasm for sliding and also hopes that there will be as many visitors on Sunday for the last day of sliding.
However, she admits that the mild weather gave the organization a bit of a challenge, which had to make some small changes. However, this did not stop young and old from enjoying their day.

“Of course we would have preferred it to be a little colder to slide a little faster, but we can’t complain. It’s well done, the atmosphere is pleasant and we have fun,” says Guillaume Jalbert, who came to slide in with his son.
“I like it when things go quickly, quickly, but here it was just going quickly. But it doesn’t matter, it was still fun,” added his boy.
Between heritage and urbanity
The Dufferin Terrace and Place d’Youville hosted a brand new event which also attracted crowds on Saturday.

Presented by the Société de développement commercial (SDC) du Vieux-Québec in collaboration with the Quebec Carnival, Swing & Glisse made it possible to highlight two heritage elements of sliding in Old Quebec, namely the famous Au slide. 1884 as well as the ice rink at Place d’Youville.
All combined with free family activities as well as a DJ who allowed visitors to stretch out a little.

“There are really a lot of people, so we are extremely satisfied with the success of the event, and it is excellent for the traders, also because it is not necessarily the peak season of the year for them” , explains the general director of the SDC du Vieux-Québec, Jeanne Couture.
