The Sûreté du Québec put an end Tuesday morning to the activities of two illegal companies which offered services to hijack the signals of the largest telecommunications companies in the province.
“A world of possibilities with the Arubox TV internet television solution. All channels, all films and series, an incomparable price,” we can read on the website of the company AruboxTV, one of the entities targeted by the police operation carried out by the Office for the Recovery of Criminal Assets of the Sûreté du Québec.
The other company targeted is StockerIPTV.
In total, the police handcuffed five people in the municipalities of Saint-Eustache, Gatineau, Longueuil and Brownsburg-Chatham.
The Sûreté du Québec believes that the suspects committed theft of telecommunications services, fraud and laundering the proceeds of crime.
The two companies targeted by the police allegedly sold terminals allowing the fraudulent obtaining of telecommunications services from various companies such as Videotron, Bell and Rogers.
“It is important to specify that people who are or who have been subscribers and who are or would have been in possession of a terminal from one of these companies (Formuler brand decoder box or other) are not covered by the “criminal investigation in progress”, the Sûreté du Québec insisted on specifying in a press release.
Additional arrests might be made in the coming weeks as part of this investigation, authorities said.
Subscribers who have done business with these two companies are invited to return their terminal to an official drop-off point of the Quebec Electronic Products Recycling Program.
