Quebecor Acquires Minority Shares in Attraction: New Business Partnerships and Industry Insights Revealed

Sources tell us that Attraction, a company that works in the field of television and cinema, as well as in the creation of digital content, would have new business partners.

Quebecor (Pierre-Karl Péladeau) has, according to our sources, acquired minority shares in the company. The HABSolumentFan, Monde de Stars, Ayoye and other previously independent sites are therefore now the (minority) property of Quebecor.

Remember that these sites were purchased for several million dollars from young entrepreneurs who launched the company Fan-O-Web around ten years ago.

It will be interesting to see if Quebecor will proceed with collaborations between TVA Sports and HABSolumentFan. According to our sources, however, there is nothing planned for this purpose for the moment.

Richard Speer still remains the majority shareholder at Attraction. Note also that other people in the industry will become minority shareholders in the project.

According to our sources, Quebecor was one of the potential buyers when Attraction acquired Fan-O-Web. The interest is therefore not new on this side.

Several of Attraction’s television productions are broadcast on ICI Radio-Canada. It will be interesting to see if Quebecor and our state corporation will be able to coexist properly.

Quebecor recently changed its structure: most of the content written on the web now originates from Quebecor digital and not from the company’s various individual properties. We feel a desire to be more present and more active on the web.

The partnership with Attraction, which has faced financial challenges in recent years, fits perfectly in this vein.

Prolongation

Quebecor has always wanted to be a partner of several media companies.

According to our sources, Quebecor shareholders recently seriously evaluated the option of becoming a business partner in BPM Sports, but the CRTC allegedly prevented them from doing so because of their presence on TV and in the written media.

You should know that a media outlet can only be in two of the following three areas: on TV, in written media and on radio. But since there are no regulations on the web, this opens doors.
