Queen Elizabeth II will probably not return to London. According to media reports, the 95-year-old should remain at Windsor Castle.

Queen Elizabeth II (95) is probably turning her back on Buckingham Palace. As several British media reports, the British monarch will probably not return to her long-term main residence in London even after the corona pandemic. Instead, she wants to stay at Windsor Castle, where she has been spending most of her time for almost two years. There is no official confirmation from the palace yet.

For a long time, the Queen used Windsor Castle, which is about 35 kilometers outside of the British capital, mainly as a weekend residence. To protect herself from the corona virus, she then moved permanently to the Berkshire township in March 2020. Her husband Prince Philip (1921-2021) also died at Windsor Castle in April 2021.

“Windsor is the place she loves”

As the “Mail Online” writes, Queen Elizabeth II wants to work more from the “home office” in the future and welcome visitors to Windsor instead of Buckingham Palace. She also wants to keep her weekly phone calls instead of personal meetings with Prime Minister Boris Johnson (57).

“Windsor is the place she loves. She has her memories with Prince Philip there, her horses there and family close by,” the Mail Online quoted Hugo Vickers as saying from The Sunday Times. Son Prince Andrew (62) lives in a house on the grounds of Windsor Castle. Granddaughter Princess Eugenie (31) also lives there with her husband and son. Queen’s son Prince Edward (57) and his family live about 15 kilometers away. According to recent reports, Prince William (39) and Duchess Kate (40) are also considering moving to Windsor.

Another reason for the permanent move could be the renovation work on Buckingham Palace, which will last until 2027. Prince Charles (73) and Duchess Camilla (74) should move in here when he takes over the throne.
