AMC has renewed Interview With the Vampire
for a fourth season titled Anne Rice’s Queen of the Damned,
with Hannah Moscovitch stepping in as showrunner. Announced on Friday at San Diego Comic-Con, the renewal follows the Season 3 finale of The Vampire Lestat,
which featured a dramatic park confrontation and a cliffhanger involving Akasha.
San Diego Comic-Con Announcement and the Season 4 Rebrand
AMC made the official announcement on Friday during The Vampire Lestat Hall H session at Comic-Con, revealing that the adaptation of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles will continue under the title Anne Rice’s Queen of the Damned. The renewal comes immediately on the heels of the Season 3 finale of TheWrap, which concluded its run last week.
This marks the second time the television series has altered its primary title to match the underlying novel by Anne Rice. In the books, Queen of the Damned serves as the third novel in the Vampire Chronicles series following Interview With the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat.

Showrunner Changes and Behind-the-Scenes Shift
The fourth season brings a notable creative shift behind the camera as Hannah Moscovitch takes over the reins as showrunner. Moscovitch succeeds Rolin Jones, who ran the first three seasons and will remain onboard as an executive producer alongside Moscovitch and Mark Johnson.
Moscovitch brings deep familiarity with the franchise, having served as a writer on the first two seasons of the series and as an executive producer on The Vampire Lestat, where she specifically wrote the characters of Akasha and Gabriella. Beyond her work in the Anne Rice universe, Moscovitch received the 2021 Governor General’s Award for English-language drama for her play Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes and the Crave TV miniseries Little Bird.
During the Comic-Con panel, executive producer Mark Johnson and Moscovitch appeared alongside series stars Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian, and Sheila Atim. Reflecting on the abrupt narrative turns in the third season, Johnson discussed the penultimate episode’s violent park confrontation, in which Armand and Daniel Molly beheaded Louis and Lestat.

Anderson offered a lighthearted take on playing a severed head, noting that performing the sequence wasn’t the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life of acting,
while questioning the mechanics of breathing and speaking without traditional science.
The Return of Akasha and the Franchise’s Cinematic History
The upcoming fourth season will focus heavily on the original vampire Akasha, who was introduced in Episode 5 of the third season and is portrayed by Sheila Atim. The character’s reign and its apocalyptic implications sit at the center of the narrative transition.
This upcoming adaptation marks a fresh attempt at the material. Following the feature success of the Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt film adaptation Interview with the Vampire in 1994—which grossed over $223 million at the box office—Warner Bros attempted to adapt Queen of the Damned in 2002. That film featured Aaliyah as Akasha and Stuart Townsend as Lestat, grossing only $45M.
