With his move to China, Markus Pink fulfilled the dream of a foreign transfer, but at the same time probably gave up the chance of scoring the top scorer. He scored 16 times for Klagenfurt before joining Shanghai Port FC. The 32-year-old is leading the scorer list, the only question is: for how much longer? The race for the top scorer’s crown is on!
First pursuer is currently Rapids Guido Burgstaller, who scored his 14th goal of the season against Sturm on Sunday. He scores every 128 minutes on average, it seems only a matter of time before the veteran overtakes Pink. Burgstaller would be the first Rapidler since Steffen Hofmann 2010 to put on the crown.

Hofmann was also the last midfielder to triumph. The best non-striker this season is Keito Nakamura from LASK. The left wing stops at twelve hits. Just like Tai Baribo from the WAC. The Israeli could follow in the footsteps of his compatriots Munas Dabbur (won in 2018 and 2019) and Shon Weissman (2020).
Also still in the running for the crown Marin Ljubicic from LASK and Salzburg Benjamin Sesco with eleven goals each. The latter has come out of a slump in form, most recently scoring twice in a row and five in the last four games. Sesko is also Salzburg’s great hope: Since 2007, the top scorer’s crown has only gone five times to a player from the series champions. In addition to Hofmann 2010, the Austrians Linz (2011), Hosiner (2013) and Kayode (2017), as well as Weissman from the WAC (2020) were successful.
Hans Krankl’s goal record from the 1977/78 season, when the Goleador scored 41 times, is out of reach for everyone.
