Mumbai: Indian-origin Rachin Ravindra is the player who has given the most energy to New Zealand’s progress to the semi-finals in the ODI World Cup. He is third behind India’s Virat Kohli and South Africa’s Quinton de Kock in the run chase in this World Cup. Rachin stands at the third position with 565 runs from nine innings. Rachin scored 565 runs at an average of 70.62 with three centuries and two fifties. The highest score was 123 not out.

Ever since Rachin made his debut in international cricket, his name has been associated with India legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Until now, it was believed that Rachin was the name given to his son by combining the names of their favorite stars, who are fans of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. The news related to this was spread in many media.

Meanwhile, Ravi Krishnamurthy’s father Ravi Krishnamurthy has completely rejected the campaigns related to Rachin’s name. He clarified that ‘Rachin’ was not the name given to his son by adding the names of legendary stars as seen in the news. He is a software engineer from Bengaluru.

“When Rachin was born, my wife asked if we should name him Rachin. It seemed like a good name so I agreed. The short name and easy spelling added to the appeal. Long after the baby was named, we noticed a similarity with the names of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. At that time we did not even think of raising our son as a cricketer’ – Ravi Krishnamurthy clarified.

With roots in Bengaluru, Ravi and his family moved to New Zealand in 1990. Twenty-three-year-old Rachin made his international debut in September 2021 in the Twenty20 match against Bangladesh in Mirpur. Later he debuted in Tests and ODIs. So far he has played three Tests, 21 ODIs and 18 Twenty20 matches for New Zealand.
