Gustavo Costas did not ask for filler reinforcements at the Academy. Far from it, the coach went in search of players to be starters or, at least, first variants. And since more footballers arrived than left, it was the squad that was nourished the most and best. At this juncture, seven of the eight Racing reinforcements that the coach has in his squad were summoned for Racing’s debut in the League Cup, this Saturday from 9 p.m. against Unión, in the Cilindro.
The only one of the new faces who was left out of those mentioned is Agustín García Basso, due to force majeure. The second left-handed central marker has been training since Wednesday with the group led by Costas and this Friday he signed his three-year contract. However, as the transfer from Independiente del Valle in Ecuador has not yet arrived, the defender has not yet been enabled in the Academy.
In any case, even if the Academy had received all the corresponding documentation, the defender would have arrived at this game with just hours of work with his new teammates. And furthermore, he needs to get in tune after having played his last game on December 17 in the final of the local Tournament lost to his former team in a penalty shootout against Lida de Quito.

Facundo Cambeses, Germán Conti, Bruno Zuculini, Santiago Sosa, Adrián Martínez, Santiago Solari and Maximiliano Salas are the reinforcements that were called by the coach for this match at the Academy. Of these names, Sosa will most likely start as a central midfielder, with Leonel Miranda as an inside midfielder on the right and Jonatan Gómez on the left. Along with Solari, on the bench the forwards Adrián Martínez (scored 18 goals in 2023 with Instituto) and Maxi Salas (standout in Palestino de Chile) will wait for their chance at the Academy. Bruno Zuculini will sit as a relief card for the middle zone. And Cambeses will become Arias’ first substitute in the role that Matías Tagliamonte occupied last year, today in Tigre.

The remaining players join the group
Two more will be added to the eight reinforcements that have been training under Costas. On Sunday Agustín Urzi will arrive in the country from Juárez in Mexico and on Monday he will undergo a medical examination. If everything goes well, he will sign a loan contract for one year at no charge (with a purchase option of $1,800,000 for 70% of the token). And in the week he will join the squad at the Academy. Also remaining is the arrival of Marco Di Césare, a center back who is with the Under 23 team in the Pre-Olympic Tournament in Venezuela. In the event that the national team advances to the final, the center back will only be able to join the Academy after the sixth date.
The other reinforcement joined the Reserve (centreback Valentín Gelos, from Atlanta)). And in the middle of the year, Matías Bergara, winger from Chicago (First National), will be added to the Academy.
